1,000 Days of Murals

by The Editor

It seems that, after 15 years, Fresno's Mural District is finally catching on. With phase II of The Lede opening, there are officially a greater number of live, live/work, work/live, live/work/live, live/work/play, and work/play spaces than there are empty buildings/vacant lots.

I have come across one tiny problem, though.

There's not enough murals.

According to the Downtown Fresno Partnership's website, there are only 17 murals in the Mural District, which means murals are outnumbered by homeless people 8:1, and we sure as hell aren't calling it the Homeless People District. (Surprisingly though, the Mural District is still not the most inappropriately named District in Downtown Fresno).

Also, I could make a pretty good case that Tower District has more murals than the Mural District.

This is a problem.

But I have a solution.

I am proud to present GBF's 1,000 Days of Murals campaign! We are challenging the City of Fresno to produce one mural a day for the next 1,000 days. And lord knows we have enough artists with nothing to do so it shouldn't be too hard.

If we can pull this off, we will have 1,017 murals in the Mural District by June 9th, 2019 and then we will have really earned that name. Like, seriously, what are we waiting for?

People are taking notice of our Murals and if we get tourists Germany or Israel thinking that they're going to be blown away by 17 murals, they're gonna be pissed. Let's give them something to talk about.

Coming June 10th, 2019: 1,000 Days of Towers. Tower District will be challenged to erect 1,000 towers in 1,000 days.
