Craft Brew Bar Review Pt. 2: The Lamp Post
by Mike Schnauz
Then it got shut down, which I won't pretend to know all of the details about. Something to do with illegal gambling, I think. When I found out that it was going to be reopened by new owners, I was excited. Especially when I found out that Steve Duquette was going to be involved (Steve was the one who gave us Tower Dogs.) I loved Tower Dogs, so I thought that the one thing that could make the loss of it OK would be to get a bar in return.
Boy was I wrong.
I stopped by a couple times the first week it was open and thought it was great. Reasonably priced craft brews on tap, conversation with the zany Chuck Leonard, and a quiet environment.
Then they came up with this idea: live music 6 nights a week.
Probably one of the worst ideas anyone in Fresno has ever had.
The Lamp Post is little more than a hallway, which isn't great for live music. It's even worse for trying to hang out with friends because you can't hear a damn thing. In fact, I've found that I dread going to The Lamp Post. I can always count on it to be a piss poor place to have a good time.
I won't even go there anymore. I don't even know if they still do live music 6 nights a week. I hope not. It's terrible. Terrible! So terrible, I think that Steve should scratch the whole thing and start Tower Dogs again. What happened to that hot dog spot is a fucking tragedy.

I've never been to this place, but in general I have to agree that live music makes for a terrible night out at a bar (especially a small one). If I'm going to go out and pay to drink rather than just buy a six pack and hang out at home, I at least want to be able to talk to the people I'm with. I hate having to yell just to talk to the guy across the table from me.
